How did MOHO begin? First published in 1980, the model of human occupation (MOHO) grew out of Dr. Gary Kielhofner's master's thesis and practice in the mid 1970s. While Dr Kielhofner has remained the primary person working on MOHO, it has always been the result of collaborative efforts.

Detta samarbete är mycket viktigt ur kvalitetshänseende eftersom professor Kielhofner var upphovsman till instrumentens teoretiska grund, det vill säga MOHO. Även om det inte krävs någon obligatorisk kurs för att använda instrumenten är det en stor fördel om användaren är bekant med MOHO för att till fullo kunna dra nytta av instrumenten.
